Aug 20th Update

Shoreline guests just left on the Noble Eagle headed for Juneau.  This week was fun, we had several different groups but at dinner you would not have known it, they all interacted and had a ton of fun together.  In the end we all just wanna catch fish so why not help each other and have fun.

147 lbs was the biggest for Shoreline this week.  Kent Wendy and Joe were here this week, and I was counting on them to lead the way and catch the most fish, they were the most experienced out of the group.  Turns out the halibut were not notified to show up on their boat, they saved everything until the last day.  The last day they did really good and got a bunch of nice halibut.  You just never know and there are for sure no guarantees, the test is how we handle things, I was impressed with them how they kept their patience and just kept working and doing the things that have worked in the past.  We had several stories of big big halibut taking line and then either breaking off or not hooking.  Big difference between landing a 80 lb halibut and a 300 lb halibut.  Even a huge reel is not going to stop a big halibut, you almost have to be ready to Chase it down with the boat so it does not take all your line or you just tighten drag as tight as you can and hope for the best.  Halibut fishing is addictive.  Nothing compares to that feeling of having something trying to pull you out of the boat.

Big Coho this week!  One was over 17 lbs.  The majority were caught in front of the Three Hill Island.  A bit deeper the past few days due to the sunny sunny hot weather conditions we are seeing, but the peak of the Silver run seems to be here, lots of them and they are big this year.  Many guests saying three on at a time.  Yes Kings are king but a big Silver/Coho is amazing especially when you get three on at once.

I was coming out on the Noble Eagle and we stopped to watch whales at Pt Adolphus, one of the guests said “could you get one to jump?” And 2 seconds later right off the stern a humpback came fully out of the water, it was perfect timing!!

Starting to get lighter much later around 6:00am now and getting dark by 9:00pm.  Starting to see some of the green leaves get a tint of yellow on the edges.

Weather has been near perfect the past few days, calm open ocean, no rain, big puffy white clouds moving slowly over head.  I am sure fall is coming but wow the weather has been amazing!
