Springtime Update

We woke up to springtime in Utah this morning, which means we’re getting closer to heading to Alaska. Kelly will begin the migration north soon, as he heads up to start construction. We’ve had a busy winter, and we couldn’t be more excited for summer. Here are some of our winter highlights!
Kelly went to a LOT of shows this winter—seriously, a lot. Since January, he’s been on the road nearly every weekend. A big thank you to everyone we visited with! We love catching up outside of Alaska and strategizing new fishing spots.
The Andersons were busy all winter… running! Breanna ran her first marathon and already plans to do many more. She said most of her training was done pushing the girls in a stroller, so when race day came, it felt much easier. If you see her running in the cove this summer, make sure to cheer her on as loud as you can!
Jake and Paige have been busy with school and after-school activities. I’m pretty sure their friends think they’re a little crazy—when asked about weekend plans, their answer is usually: hauling 5,000 pounds of lead.
Speaking of lead, that’s another big winter project. Bob poured 5,000 pounds, which will be shipped north in the next few weeks. Every piece has to be hand-carried at least seven times before it makes it to Elfin Cove—so handle with care!
Dawson spent the winter cleaning reels and is almost finished. He’s done so many that I wouldn’t be surprised if he dreams about assembling them.
Paige has also earned the title of official Waters Edge Lodge Warehouse Magician. She has spent hours in the garage counting, sorting, labeling, and boxing supplies for Alaska. From hoodies to hooches, and scales to silverware—Paige has had a hand in everything headed north this summer.
Larry and Wendy have been enjoying life (and wildlife!) in Montana. We get regular reports of critters wandering through their front yard.
Bruce has been busy with the retired life. Dreaming up new recipes and desserts I am excited to try this summer.
Interview season runs from October through December, with 2–3 interviews scheduled every weekday. It’s always fun meeting new people who are excited to come to Alaska. We have a lot of new crew members this year, and we can’t wait to get up there and get started.
We haven’t heard much from Justen. I think his head is either in a book at school or a pile of snow. Fairbanks had an extremely cold winter this year, so bring some sunshine up to the cove for Justen to enjoy… I don’t think he’s seen a lot of it.
I’ve been more consistent with the gym this winter, with a goal of hitting the stair stepper every time I go to prepare for Alaska. The ramp at low tide is my enemy—but I plan to win this year.
Our new Stabicrafts have been making their way from New Zealand to Juneau, and Matt will start installing motors soon. There’s a lot of work that goes into getting new boats ready, but we’re excited to see them in action. Matt will be a little busy this year as he has added a new puppy to his life.
It’s been a fun and busy winter, and we can’t wait to head back to Alaska. Comment below with any fun winter updates from you or your family—we love hearing your stories!
We’re looking forward to seeing you all in Alaska soon!
