King Salmon opened back up today. 1 per year for Non Residents. Still lots of pink salmon, they are jumping from Cross Sound to Juneau. The big story is the Silver/Coho Salmon. They are doing great this year, started mid June and are still going strong. Seeing big huge herring in their bellies. They are good sized also, really starting to get big. We are catching them at Three Hill & George Island and also Soapstone and Yakobi Rock. Depths seem to be above 70’ for the Coho, some guests are using the dipsy diver and finding success.
I heard a yellow hoochie/plastic squid was doing good, but I am not sure it matters the trick is finding the school and staying with it.
I had several boats this week say this was the best halibut fishing they have ever seen. The biggest one for the week was 160 lbs.
Weather has been really good still, we have seen a nice stretch of good open ocean conditions. Temps are in the high 60s so that has been nice to have some warmer weather.
Mary and I have some exciting news, Dawson and Claire are now officially engaged! We are excited for them. Fun to see these kids grow up. The berry season is in full stride right now, lots of Salmon berries and blue berries around Elfin Cove right now.
