Another week has come and gone with the Waters Edge Building.  The weeks are starting to go faster not sure if that is a good thing or not?  Very much enjoying our summer this year, the weather has been much better the past few weeks.  The crew seems to be getting along and working well together.

Biggest Halibut for this week was 205 lbs.  Very nice trophy halibut for sure.  Pink salmon seem to be the bait of choice from what I am hearing.  There were some halibut caught on jigs but the majority are being caught on pink salmon bait.  We are seeing Octopus beaks in most of the bigger halibut.  Pink salmon are still very dominant out there, they are jumping in the air all the way from Cross Sound to Juneau.  The Silvers are there sometimes as deep as 70’ the trick is to find them and stay with them.  But it is hard when pinks are constantly hitting your bait.  Not as many kings released this week, but still seeing a few.  I think most of the guests were focused on halibut this week.

Current/tidal movement?  What is good and what is bad?  The current movement of the water is what transports the smell from your bait to the halibut.  To much current and you have trouble staying on bottom, not enough your smell is not spread very well.  Location is key if you anchor in the middle of south pass with a 10 mph current you will not be able to stay on bottom at all, so you look for eddies or places where the current slows down enough to get your bait and weight on bottom.  The biggest halibut seem to like the stronger current.
